Ornamental Hippo

This cast‑bronze hippo nods to the long metal‑casting heritage of the Benin Kingdom, where refined lost‑wax techniques were used to create expressive bronze and brass forms.  Works from this tradition carried cultural meaning and recorded aspects of court life between the 15th and 19th centuries, forming one of West Africa’s most celebrated artistic lineages. 

The hippo’s warm patina and sturdy shape let it sit naturally on a shelf or console, with the cast surface giving it just a hint of texture.
